Attempted robbery involving knife attack on truck driver in Neuss
A 37-year-old truck driver was the target of an attempted robbery near Neuss early on Tuesday. A passenger in a van had signalled to him while driving that there was allegedly a problem with his trailer. The two vehicles later stopped at the roadside near the Büttgen junction.
When the driver went to the rear of his truck, the van passenger allegedly kicked him, police said. A second person entered the truck cab at the same time. During the ensuing struggle, the passenger is alleged to have made a stabbing motion with a knife toward the 37-year-old. The driver ducked, and the offender may instead have struck his accomplice.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries and did not need medical treatment at the scene. The two unidentified men fled in their van. It was initially unclear whether either of them was injured.
