Man threatens police officers with knife in Bayreuth

During a police operation on Heinrich-Heine-Strasse in Bayreuth shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a 53-year-old man threatened officers with a knife. Police had been called because the man was in a psychological crisis. After he drew the knife and threatened the officers, they used their firearms. The man sustained a gunshot wound, received emergency medical treatment and remains in hospital. No other injuries were reported. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office is reviewing the firearms use under the direction of the Bayreuth public prosecutor's office.
