Man threatens passers-by with knife in Wittlich
At about 19:33 on 8 April, a 31-year-old man allegedly shouted at passers-by and threatened some of them with a knife at Schloßplatz in Wittlich. According to police, he remained aggressive after officers arrived and did not comply with instructions. After repeated warnings, officers used a Taser, restrained him and searched him. No knife was initially found on him, but officers later secured a pocket or work knife with a retractable blade beneath a bench near the scene. Medical staff found no physical injuries on the man, who was then taken to a psychiatric facility. Investigations into the sequence of events and the motive are ongoing.
