Knife attack after collision near Westhofen
On 5 February, a 45-year-old van driver is alleged to have deliberately caused a head-on collision on the L 425 between Westhofen and Worms-Abenheim. His 40-year-old wife and her 68-year-old father were seriously injured in the crash. Immediately afterwards, the man allegedly used a knife against his wife while she was still seated in the other vehicle, inflicting significant stab wounds; her father also sustained further injuries. Both were admitted to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained in inpatient care, although police said their conditions were stable. Witnesses stopped the accused after he fled on foot and held him until police arrived. An investigating judge ordered pre-trial detention on suspicion of attempted murder in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm, while the investigation continues.
