Two schoolgirls seriously injured in attack at Schongau secondary school

Two schoolgirls were seriously injured on 8 July on the grounds of a secondary school in Schongau. According to the state of the investigation at the time, a minor suspect allegedly stabbed the girls several times in the upper body with a knife he was carrying. Both were taken to hospital and were no longer in life-threatening danger after medical treatment.

The suspect was subdued shortly afterwards near the school grounds by two school employees and then arrested. Prosecutors applied for an arrest warrant over two counts of attempted murder in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm; an investigating judge issued the warrant and the accused was remanded in custody. Authorities also said the youth allegedly carried a firearm and fired it once. The background and precise sequence of events remained under investigation.
