Man seriously injured by police gunfire after knife threats in Sassenberg
Following a neighbourhood dispute on Nieländer street in Sassenberg, a 25-year-old man allegedly drew two knives and lightly injured two neighbours. He then allegedly fled on foot. When officers found him near the scene, he allegedly ignored instructions and advanced on them in a threatening manner with the knives. After repeatedly warning him, an officer fired a shot and struck the man in the upper body. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. An investigative commission is reviewing the police use of firearms.
