Man on trial after knife attack on wife in Calbe
A 39-year-old man is on trial at Magdeburg Regional Court for the attempted murder of his wife. According to the indictment, he stabbed her with a kitchen knife and strangled her in Calbe in April; she was seriously injured and needed emergency surgery. She had reportedly planned to move out with their son and divorce him. She apparently escaped from the apartment. A police officer said he found her bleeding heavily outside the building when he arrived. The man was arrested and initially did not comment on the allegations in court.
