Patient critically injured in knife attack at Regensburg clinic

A 33-year-old patient allegedly attacked a 23-year-old fellow patient with a knife in an open ward at Regensburg District Hospital at about 9 pm on 16 August. The victim sustained a cut to the neck, lost consciousness and required emergency surgery after receiving initial treatment. Police said there was an acute danger to his life. A nurse persuaded the suspect to put down the knife, and police arrested him shortly afterwards. Investigators are treating the case as attempted homicide, and the suspect was placed in a secure facility.
