Man dies after police shooting in Nuremberg

A 38-year-old man died on 4 March after police used a firearm while executing an arrest warrant at an apartment on Heisterstraße in Nuremberg. Officers had gone to the address at about 08:15 to arrest him on a warrant connected to an alleged assault.

Police said the man resisted arrest and is believed to have armed himself with a kitchen knife during a physical confrontation with the officers. An officer then used a firearm. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the Nuremberg-Fürth public prosecutor's office are investigating the operation and its lawfulness.
