Man threatens police officers with knife during rescue operation in Gera
On 4 March, a 36-year-old man was found on the banks of the Elster in Gera after he had been reported missing. At around 2 p.m., a passer-by had noticed the seriously injured man carrying a knife. When police officers arrived, he allegedly continued to injure himself and threatened the officers with the knife.
The man then entered the Elster. Officers shortly afterwards rescued him from the water, provided initial care and handed him over to an ambulance with serious injuries. The witness and the emergency officers were unharmed; a road was closed and traffic diverted because of the operation.
