Man threatens passenger with knife on train to Mainz
Late on 15 May, a 21-year-old man threatened a 49-year-old fellow passenger with a kitchen knife on the RE 3 train from Bad Kreuznach to Mainz. He demanded the passenger's smartphone, cash and bank card, and said he would kill him when the train arrived at the station. Federal police arrested the man as the train entered Mainz Central Station and seized a utility knife and the kitchen knife from him. At the police station, he attacked officers, striking two in the face and strangling another by the neck. Four officers were injured but remained fit for duty. The man was released from custody early the next morning, and multiple investigations were opened against him.
