A 49-year-old man was seriously injured by a stab wound to the neck at Willy-Brand-Platz in Heidelberg on 23 October 2026. He had stepped between a 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman whom the man had allegedly tried to attack. At about 5:45 p.m., the 28-year-old had reportedly shoved, spat at and insulted a 25-year-old woman during a dispute on a bus by the main station. The injured man received hospital treatment. Investigators identified the suspect using evidence including video footage. On 28 October, a warrant for attempted manslaughter and aggravated assault was put into effect, placing him in pre-trial detention; the investigation continues.
