Man approaches police officer with knife in Hanover

At about 19:14 on 6 September, a man approached a 24-year-old police officer while holding a knife during a police check at Hanover District Court. Officers had previously noticed him near Volgersweg and intended to check him because he appeared to be carrying a knife. During the subsequent events, the officer fired several shots from his service weapon. The man sustained serious gunshot injuries to his legs and was taken to hospital; police said there was no acute danger to his life. The circumstances surrounding the use of the firearm are being investigated.
