Hamburg man on trial over alleged machete attack on neighbour
A 41-year-old man is on trial in Hamburg on charges including attempted manslaughter. Prosecutors say he swung a machete at the head of his 27-year-old neighbour one morning in May 2026, inside an apartment building in Barmbek-Nord. The neighbour shut his apartment door in time, and the machete struck the door instead. Before that, the defendant allegedly directed xenophobic insults at the neighbour and punched him. He is also accused of continuing to strike the door until police arrived and of resisting arrest. The defendant denies intending to injure or kill his neighbour.
