Machete attack on neighbour thwarted in Hamburg-Barmbek-Nord

Following a dispute between neighbours in Hamburg-Barmbek-Nord, a 41-year-old man is suspected of trying to injure a 27-year-old man with a machete at about 8:14 a.m. on 30 May. The two residents of an apartment building had previously argued from adjacent balconies. The 27-year-old sustained minor injuries from blows. When the suspect later went to his neighbour's apartment door, the neighbour prevented the machete attack by closing the door in time. The man was provisionally detained, and a judge issued a detention order. State security investigators are continuing the inquiry, including into a possible racist motive.
