Man seriously injured in altercation in Göttingen

A 24-year-old man was seriously injured on Saturday evening during an altercation near Waageplatz and Robert-Gernhardt-Platz in Göttingen. He sustained stab and cut injuries to his face and arms, received emergency medical treatment and was taken to hospital. His injuries were initially assessed as acutely life-threatening, but the hospital reported on Sunday morning that he was no longer in danger of dying.

A 19-year-old man was also treated for injuries. A 22-year-old man who attended hospital with a cut to his hand became part of the investigation. The 19-year-old and the 22-year-old were provisionally detained after treatment. Police secured a bloodstained knife close to the scene, but it remains unclear who carried it and how the altercation unfolded.
