Man critically injured by stab wound in Göttingen

A 31-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries from a stab wound in Göttingen city centre early Sunday. Emergency personnel found him seriously injured on a pavement in Nikolaistraße at about 05:00 and took him to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Investigators believe the incident may have occurred near the city wall. The man had previously left a bar with another man and later reportedly told acquaintances that his companion had injured him. A 29-year-old suspect was provisionally detained at the bar at about 05:30. Police are investigating the background and the exact sequence of events.
