Man seriously injured after suspected knife attack in Göttingen

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery after sustaining stab wounds during an altercation outside an asylum and homeless accommodation facility on Neuer Weg in Göttingen. His injuries were initially assessed as potentially life-threatening, though his condition was later stable.

Police said the injured man and a 31-year-old had first argued in the street at about 00:20 on 2 October. Witness accounts indicate that the dispute may have culminated in the use of a knife. The 31-year-old was found nearby with minor injuries and provisionally detained. Criminal police are investigating on suspicion of attempted homicide.
