Knife attack after dispute at Gelsenkirchen market stall

After an attempted theft of cherries at a market stall in Gelsenkirchen, a man allegedly tried to stab the stall operator in the legs with a knife, police said. The operator was not hit.

The suspect then fled into a nearby apartment building. Police said he forced his way into an apartment there and struck its occupant on the head with an iron bar. The man sustained a small head laceration and sought outpatient treatment. Police provisionally detained a 35-year-old suspect and opened several criminal proceedings.
