Police officer injured with pointed object in Frankfurt

At Frankfurt's Kaisertor on 23 June at about 4 p.m., a man allegedly unexpectedly bumped into a police officer and injured the officer's hand with a pointed object. When the man allegedly continued to approach the officers despite repeated commands and a warning that firearms could be used, officers discharged a firearm near Am Hauptbahnhof 8. The suspected attacker was seriously injured, received initial treatment and was taken to hospital; his life was not in danger. The injured officer left hospital after outpatient treatment. Investigators are continuing to examine the background and precise sequence of events.
