Erfurt: Senior threatened with knife after phone theft
A 28-year-old man allegedly threatened a 67-year-old man with a knife in central Erfurt on 28 October 2026 when the older man demanded the return of his stolen mobile phone. The senior had been photographing landmarks near Johannesstraße at around 3:40 p.m.; after he did not continue a conversation with the man, the man followed him, pushed him to the ground from behind and took his phone, worth about €100. The senior sustained minor injuries in the fall and then pursued the man with a witness until they alerted arriving police officers. During the police check, the man struck an officer in the face with his elbow, causing minor injuries; officers brought him to the ground, restrained him and seized a knife from his jacket pocket. The 28-year-old was also slightly injured and was taken to hospital under police escort. The phone had not been recovered at the time of the report, and investigations were opened into offences including aggravated robbery-related theft, resisting officers and a weapons-law violation.
