Man remanded in custody after knife robbery attempt at Bonn supermarket

A 37-year-old man is in pre-trial detention following a failed robbery attempt at a supermarket in Bonn-Pennenfeld. Police say he entered the store on Max-Planck-Straße on 7 September 2026 at around 07:40, held a knife in front of a cashier and demanded cash. When she refused, he unsuccessfully tried to open the till himself with the knife, then fled empty-handed towards Saint-Cloud-Straße. An immediate search failed, but witness information led investigators to identify him. Officers recognised him during an unrelated investigation in Alfter on 15 October and arrested him at a hardware store there. A judge ordered his pre-trial detention the following day; the investigation continues.
