Man arrested after alleged knife attack at Berlin Holocaust Memorial

On the evening of 21 February, a 30-year-old Spanish tourist was allegedly attacked with a knife among the stelae of Berlin's Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Mitte. The attacker is said to have approached the man from behind at around 6 p.m. and inflicted life-threatening neck injuries. Following emergency surgery and a period of induced coma, the injured man is no longer in danger of dying. Officers arrested a 19-year-old suspect at around 8:45 p.m. during police operations at the scene. Berlin's General Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm; authorities are examining a possible connection to the Middle East conflict.
