Train conductor threatened with utility knife near Bensheim during ticket check

A 29-year-old man allegedly threatened a train conductor with a utility knife in early August on a regional train near Bensheim. The conductor was attempting to inspect the man's ticket on Regionalbahn 68 from Frankfurt to Mannheim shortly before the train reached Bensheim station. The suspect is alleged to have repeatedly tried to evade the inspection. When asked to show his ticket, he allegedly produced the utility knife and threatened the conductor, who stepped back. The man fled after the train arrived at the station. Police identified him in part through body-camera footage from the conductor and provisionally arrested him on Monday. A judge ordered pre-trial detention the following day on suspicion of robbery and extortion.
