Man suspected of injuring police officer with knife in Bayreuth

A 43-year-old man is suspected of threatening several police officers with a knife and lightly injuring a female officer during his subsequent arrest in Bayreuth on 7 April. Passers-by had called police after the owner of a residential property was shouting in his garden.

Officers pushed the man back onto his property after he allegedly threatened to use the knife he was carrying. According to police, his aggression continued for more than an hour. When he tried to return to the street, officers used pepper spray and a conducted energy device. The suspect also sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

At the request of the public prosecutor's office, a judge ordered the man's temporary placement in a psychiatric hospital on suspicion of attempted homicide. Criminal police are investigating.
