Man with knife approaches police officers in Walldorf

A 20-year-old driver was to be stopped for a traffic check in Walldorf early on 12 May, but drove away and later came to a halt near Hauptstraße. According to the investigation at that stage, he got out holding a knife and did not drop it despite pepper spray and two warning shots. When he moved quickly towards police officers, they fired several shots because they feared he would injure them with the knife. The man was seriously injured and was being treated in hospital. The Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office is investigating under the direction of the Heidelberg public prosecutor's office, including by reviewing body-camera footage.
