Trial begins over knife attack in Stuttgart-Nord

A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old man are on trial at Stuttgart Regional Court over an attack in Stuttgart-Nord in late April. Prosecutors charge them with attempted murder and joint aggravated assault, alleging that after an argument they struck a man who was then 44 toward the head with a wrench and stabbed him twice in the chest with a knife. He survived life-threatening injuries after immediate emergency surgery; the attackers allegedly fled. Prosecutors say the attack was planned and may have had a far-right motive; one defendant and the victim had previously argued over political views. Both defendants were arrested in late April and have been held in pre-trial detention since then. They admitted the acts but denied intending to injure or kill the man.
