Suspected shoplifter handles knife in front of staff
Police took a 36-year-old man into custody at a supermarket on Dr.-Robert-Koch-Straße in Nordhausen on 13 October 2026. He allegedly took cigarettes and tried to leave without paying. When an employee confronted him at around 8:44 a.m., he became aggressive, drew a breakfast knife from his jacket and initially put it away again. He then took it out once more and placed it on the checkout counter in front of several staff members. Arriving officers ended the confrontation; nobody was injured. Criminal police are investigating, a blood sample was ordered, and the man is due to appear before a judge.
