Employee threatened with knife in Mettmann

Two masked men allegedly attacked a 65-year-old employee of a food wholesaler in a warehouse on Karpendeller Weg in Mettmann at about 5:15 a.m. on 30 April. After the employee opened a gate, they allegedly forced him back into the warehouse, assaulted him and demanded that he disable the alarm while holding a knife. When he did not comply, he was allegedly knocked to the ground. By the time he regained consciousness, the suspects had gone and a shelf was on fire. He initially extinguished the fire himself before firefighters prevented the fire and smoke from spreading further. Paramedics took him to hospital as a precaution because of suspected smoke inhalation. According to initial findings, the suspects took no loot; police are investigating.
