Two seriously injured after knife attack in Mannheim flat

During the night of 21 June, emergency officers were called to a flat in central Mannheim over a threatening situation. According to the investigative status at the time, a 53-year-old resident allegedly injured several people there with a knife. During an emergency police entry, officers found a 26-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man with serious injuries caused by knife violence. The woman required resuscitation, was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery; the man was also taken to hospital and was not in immediate danger, police said. The suspect was detained, later collapsed and died after being admitted to hospital. Investigators are handling the case as suspected attempted homicide against the two injured people; the cause of the suspect's death remains unclear.
