Man remanded in custody after knife attack in Mannheim

Police said a 28-year-old man attempted to mediate during a verbal dispute between two men on Lagerstraße in Mannheim. A 46-year-old man allegedly pulled a knife he was carrying and seriously injured him. After receiving first aid, the injured man was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery; police said his life remained at risk. The suspect initially fled but was detained shortly afterwards. On 20 January, an investigating judge issued a remand warrant at the prosecution's request on suspicion of attempted manslaughter combined with dangerous bodily harm.
