Man armed with two knives attacks police in Bamberg district
A 38-year-old man in Bamberg district is alleged to have threatened police officers while carrying two knives and to have moved toward them. Witnesses had reported him on Saturday morning as confused and armed. During the subsequent search, he allegedly responded to officers addressing him with threats and ran toward them despite pepper spray and warning shots. Officers fired their service weapons, injuring his leg; authorities said the injury was not life-threatening. As he allegedly continued holding a knife and making threats, further officers subdued him with an electroshock device. Following hospital treatment, an investigating judge ordered his placement in a psychiatric facility; investigators are examining, among other allegations, threats and an assault on enforcement officers.
