Man with two knives threatens police officers in Bamberg district

A 38-year-old man allegedly threatened police officers while armed with two knives in the Bamberg district on Saturday morning. Witnesses had previously reported a confused man, and police said he responded with threats when officers found him during the subsequent search and ran toward them. Pepper spray and warning shots reportedly did not stop him, after which officers fired their service weapons. He allegedly continued holding a knife and making threats after sustaining a leg injury before further officers subdued him with an electroshock device. He was taken to hospital and is to be placed in a psychiatric facility under a judicial placement order. Investigators are examining, among other allegations, suspected threats and assault on law-enforcement officers.
