Man armed with knife threatens passersby in Krefeld
In Krefeld, a 33-year-old man carrying a knife reportedly threatened passersby at least verbally on 1 October 2026. Police approached him after witnesses alerted them, but he did not respond and fled towards the city centre. An officer fired a warning shot, and pepper spray also failed to stop him. During the subsequent operation, a special police officer shot him in the legs. He was taken to hospital and his life is not in danger. Gelsenkirchen police took over the investigation for reasons of impartiality.
