Woman threatened with knives and held in Cologne

A 28-year-old man is accused of holding a 25-year-old woman against her will in a hotel in Cologne for several hours on 9 February in an attempt to extort a five-figure sum of money. According to police, the woman managed to leave the hotel using a pretext. The demand for money was allegedly then maintained together with four other men, who are said to have threatened and intimidated her with firearms and knives. Special units provisionally detained the five men during the night of 13 February. During a search, police seized, among other items, long guns, bayonets, ammunition, narcotics and mobile phones. The 28-year-old was due to appear before an investigating judge because an arrest warrant was already outstanding; the investigation is continuing.
