Man remanded after knife attack at Cologne Cathedral Square

A judge has ordered pre-trial detention for an 18-year-old suspect following a violent confrontation at Cologne Cathedral Square on 13 July. The man is accused of inflicting a life-threatening stab wound on a 22-year-old opponent with a knife.

Another 18-year-old participant suffered minor cuts. Police arrested the suspect at Ebertplatz on 23 July after video-control-centre staff recognised him in footage. Investigations on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm are ongoing.
