Bus driver threatened with knife and emergency hammer in Cologne

A 19-year-old man allegedly demanded money from a 38-year-old bus driver in Cologne-Flittard on 12 February while threatening him with a knife and an emergency hammer. At about 5:30, he boarded the bus at the Chempark S-Bahn stop and sat behind the driver. Police said he then attacked the driver at traffic lights. After the driver took the emergency hammer away, the man allegedly tried unsuccessfully to grab a bag belonging to the driver before fleeing through the bus door. Officers detained him shortly afterwards on the Chempark site, and he was due to appear before a remand judge.
