A 46-year-old man is suspected of seriously injuring a 62-year-old man with a knife on Edinger Street in Heidelberg at about 06:30 on 11 January. Police and prosecutors said a physical confrontation followed a verbal dispute between the two men. The injured man suffered wounds to his arm and abdomen, underwent emergency surgery and was most recently not in life-threatening condition. The suspect initially fled, was later provisionally detained in the Mannheim area and was then temporarily placed in a psychiatric hospital by court order. The investigation is ongoing.
