Man stabs grandmother with scissors at playground in Hanover

A 46-year-old man is alleged to have tried to forcibly take a boy away from a playground on Ostafrikastraße in Hanover at about 5:35 p.m. on 1 May. The boy’s grandmother held on to him and confronted the man. Police said the man then produced scissors and stabbed the woman several times.

The grandmother suffered superficial cut and stab wounds and received outpatient treatment. The child sustained grazes. Residents alerted police after the man was reportedly still holding the scissors in a threatening manner. Officers arrested him, and a judge ordered pre-trial detention. Police are investigating, among other allegations, dangerous bodily harm and attempted removal of a minor.
