Man critically injured after alleged knife stabbing in Hamburg-St. Pauli

A 39-year-old man was critically injured in Große Freiheit in Hamburg-St. Pauli at about 05:50 on 1 January. Police said an altercation had first taken place between a 24-year-old and a 38-year-old man. When the 39-year-old apparently tried to intervene, the 24-year-old allegedly stabbed him in the neck with a knife. Officers provisionally detained the suspect at the scene and secured the alleged weapon. The injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance with an emergency doctor; the suspect is to be brought before an investigating judge on suspicion of attempted homicide.
