Man allegedly attempted to stab compatriot to death in Halberstadt
A 23-year-old defendant allegedly attempted to stab another man staying at a central asylum-seeker reception facility in Halberstadt to death with a knife on 5 September 2025. According to the court, the defendant may lack criminal responsibility because of a mental illness. He is provisionally being held in a psychiatric hospital. If the allegation is proven and he is considered a danger to the public, permanent psychiatric detention could be ordered.
