23-year-old seriously injured in Göttingen altercation
A 23-year-old man was injured in the upper body with an unidentified sharp-edged object during an altercation on Nikolaistrasse in Göttingen at around 21:00 on 3 October 2026. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains an inpatient. The alleged attacker, a 24-year-old man, initially fled on foot but was identified soon afterwards. After an unsuccessful search, he surrendered to police on Sunday morning and was arrested; he was released on Monday. The investigation is continuing. An earlier dispute between the two men is considered a possible background to the confrontation, but the circumstances have not been fully established.
