Man detained after dispute involving knife in Gelsenkirchen

Police are investigating suspected dangerous bodily harm after repeated confrontations involving three men in Gelsenkirchen's old town. When officers were called to Bahnhofstraße in the pedestrian area on the evening of 15 April, a 39-year-old man was pursuing a 25-year-old and a 28-year-old man while carrying a knife and a broken glass bottle. Officers restrained the 39-year-old, who said he had only acted in self-defence after being hit by the other two men. He and the 28-year-old were taken into custody to prevent further offences, while the 25-year-old fled during the operation. The investigation is ongoing.
