Man attacks fellow inmate with two knives in Gablingen

A 27-year-old allegedly attacked a 36-year-old fellow inmate with two knives at Gablingen prison on 17 January. The incident was preceded by a verbal dispute in a cell block at around 10:30 a.m. According to police, the blades of the blunt knives, which belong to the prison inventory, were particularly flexible and blunt, preventing more serious consequences. The 36-year-old sustained minor injuries. He and another inmate restrained the attacker until prison staff arrived. Criminal police are investigating on suspicion of attempted homicide; the 27-year-old had already been held in pre-trial detention in connection with a different offence.
