Man critically injured by stab wounds during dispute in Essen
A 52-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries from several stab wounds during a dispute in an apartment on Stauderstraße in Essen-Katernberg on the evening of 26 September 2026. Initial inquiries also placed his 48-year-old partner and her minor son in the dispute; the stabbing implement has not been identified. At around 22:10, witnesses reported the injured man in the building's hallway. Police gave first aid before he was taken to hospital for emergency surgery. The woman and her son were initially detained. As suspicion focused on the minor, the woman was released early on 27 September; initial indications of self-defence also led to her son being returned to her care. Prosecutors and a homicide squad are investigating what happened and why.
