Three men seriously injured after altercation in Essen
Three men were seriously injured in a physical altercation involving several participants at an event in Essen-Rüttenscheid. Police said they suffered stab injuries, and a knife allegedly used to injure them was seized.
The dispute began at about 2:10 a.m. on 5 July in an outdoor area of an event venue on Giradetstraße. The injured men were taken to hospital and were not in life-threatening condition. A 46-year-old suspect was identified at the scene and provisionally detained. A security employee who was reportedly not involved in the initial altercation lost consciousness at the scene and died that night; the cause of death is under investigation. Prosecutors and a homicide investigation unit are examining the circumstances.
