19-year-old remanded in custody after knife robbery in Essen
Two supermarket employees in Essen were confronted by a man holding a knife in a car park on the evening of 16 June. The man allegedly tried to snatch a cash register containing the day's takings from them. During the brief ensuing scuffle, the register fell to the ground and one employee suffered minor injuries.
The suspect took several banknotes and fled on foot. Police officers detained him shortly afterwards following a search. According to police, his bag contained, among other items, the suspected weapon and cash. A court issued a remand order against the 19-year-old for aggravated robbery following an application by prosecutors.
