Two people seriously injured in knife attacks in Essen
Germany's federal prosecutor has taken over proceedings against a minor suspect following two knife attacks in Essen on 5 September. He is accused of stabbing a teacher he knew several times in the abdomen with a large knife at a vocational college that morning. Shortly afterwards, he allegedly stabbed a man unknown to him in the back on a public street. Both victims survived with serious injuries. The suspect was injured when he was arrested and is in pre-trial detention, while Essen police continue the investigation.
