Man threatens pursuer with knife in Eichwalde
In Eichwalde, a man is alleged to have threatened a 42-year-old cyclist with a knife on Sunday morning after a bag theft. Earlier, the man had taken a handbag and backpack from an 83-year-old woman and fled on an e-scooter. The cyclist began pursuing him after the woman called for help. According to the report, the fleeing man first knocked the cyclist over; the cyclist later caught up with him on foot and held him until police arrived.
When officers attempted to handcuff the suspect, they noticed that he had turned blue. Resuscitation attempts by police, witnesses and emergency medical personnel were unsuccessful, and the man died at the scene. His identity was initially unknown. Criminal police are investigating the sequence of events, while a forensic examination is intended to determine the cause of death.
