Man seriously injured with broken bottle in Chemnitz

A 25-year-old man allegedly injured an acquaintance in Chemnitz on 18 September using a glass bottle he had previously broken. Police said he ran towards the man and inflicted a stab wound from behind. The 31-year-old was seriously injured and received intensive hospital treatment; police said he was not believed to be in danger of dying at that time.

An off-duty police officer pursued the fleeing suspect, called for assistance and held him until other officers arrived. The man was provisionally detained but released after police measures were completed. The two men are believed to have argued earlier on bus route 21. Criminal police are investigating and seeking witnesses.
