One dead and one seriously injured after dispute in Castrop-Rauxel

A dispute between two brothers in an apartment in the Rauxel district of Castrop-Rauxel left a 39-year-old man fatally injured on Sunday evening. His 33-year-old brother sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

According to current findings, the men initially argued verbally and then injured each other with a stabbing weapon. The 33-year-old was initially provisionally detained. After a further interview, however, he was not brought before a remand judge and remained in hospital for the time being.

The accused stated that his brother had stabbed him in the thigh with a kitchen knife after the argument. He said he took the knife away and then stabbed his brother. Investigators are continuing to examine whether the claimed self-defence situation was present.
